The Driver Suit Blog-Throwback Thursday-1977 #25 Chevron B36

Max Cohen-Olivar,Alain Flotard, and Michel Dubois 1977 #25 Chevron B36

The Chevron B36 is a boxy car. I say that because it resembles a box with an aerodynamic nose and rear. It’s not a good look. With this paint scheme, it’s just bad. The colors are all wrong, and the design scheme is much too over done. It’s a bad look that earns an F.

The Driver Suit Blog-Throwback Thursday-1977 #10 Mirage GR8

Vern Schuppan and Jean-Pierre Jarier 1977 #10 Mirage GR8

The Mirage GR8 is another example of a decent design with a slightly over-sized air intake. Add in an odd shade of yellow intermixed with a red, white, and blue scheme, and you have a car that just has an odd look. Its a look that’s worth a C+.

Martini makes another appearance, this time on this 1977 Porsche 936/77. The Porsche 936/77 is a great looking car, but the air intake is a bit too big. Martini’s look on this car can be summed up in one word:Perfect. The bright white works well, and the blue and red stripes work well too. Giving this car anything less than an A is unfair!

The Driver Suit Blog-Throwback Thursday-1976 #19 Renault Alpine A442

Jean-Pierre Jabouille,Patrick Tambay, and José Dolhem 1976 #19 Renault Alpine A442

The Renault Alpine A442 is a car with really good dimensions, but the giant air intake on top takes away from the overall look. The shade of yellow used here is good, and the black adds to it. The white stripes across the sides are pointless, and take away from the overall look. Given everything, I’ll give this car an A-.

The Driver Suit Blog-Throwback Thursday-1976 #5 WM P76

Guy Chasseuil and Ballot-Léna 1976 #5 WM P76

The WM P76 looks like it was based on the designs of a small child asked to draw a race car. It looks really short, with the really tall driver compartment. Add in a gaudy lightning red, white, and blue lightning bolt design which is over done, and unattractive, and you have a failing look for sure. F

The Driver Suit Blog-Throwback Thursday-1976 #4 Dodge Charger

Hershel McGriff and Doug McGriff 1976 #4 Dodge Charger

Wait, why is there a 1971 Dodge Charger in the 1976 24 Hours of Le Mans? Well, it doesn’t matter, since the 1971 Dodge Charger is a great looking car. Any NASCAR or Muscle Car fan recognizes the distinct look. Add in a great shade of white, and a great shade of metallic gold, and a great design scheme, and you have a car that is worth an A.

The Driver Suit Blog-Throwback Thursday-1975 #35 Moynet LM75

Christine Dacremont,Michèle Mouton, and Marianne Hoepfner 1975 #35 Moynet LM75

I like the bubble-top look of the Moynet LM75. The rounded look of the car is a great design. The red and blue ESSO design works very well here. The shades of red and blue work well, not just on the car, but with each other. The design is simple, but bold. It’s an A car all around.

The Driver Suit Blog-Throwback Thursday-1975 #15 Porsche 908/3

Reinhold Joest,Mario Casoni,and Jürgen Barth 1975 #15 Porsche 908/3

The Porsche 908/3 is a good looking car, with a smooth, rounded look. I like the silver used here, as much as I like the black stripe across the side. The V-stripe from the front to the rear is also a good look. The yellow and red on the front is decent, though it could be a little toned down. All things considered, it’s worth an A.

The Driver Suit Blog-Throwback Thursday-1975 #11 Mirage GR8

Derek Bell and Jacky Ickx 1975 #11 Mirage GR8

Gulf Oil makes a return on this list again, this time on a 1975 Mirage GR8. The Gulf Oil paint scheme is a great look, nothing surprising about that. With the smooth look and streamlined shape of the Mirage GR8, the Gulf Oil scheme shines again. This is a great look all around, and earns an A.

The Driver Suit Blog-Throwback Thursday-1974 #25 Sigma MC74

Yasuhiro Okamoto, Harukuni Takahashi, and Yojiro Terada 1974 #25 Sigma MC74

The Sigma MC74 is a smooth looking car. I do like the fins, and the lack of a tail works here. The shade of red is good, and the white works well with the red. I do think the design scheme is just a bit over done. I think there are too many white stripes. If the white on the bottom were changed to red, I would give it an A. This car as it is is worth a B+.
