The Driver Suit Blog-Paint Scheme Grades-February 12, 2022

By David G. Firestone

Ross Chastain #1 Howler Head Bourbon Chevy Camaro-A great color scheme paired with an awful design scheme with too much going on will get a C.

Austin Cindric #2 Freightliner/eCascadia Ford Mustang-Same scheme as last year, same D grade.

Brad Keselowski #6 Kohler Generators Ford Mustang-This is a really good look, and I like the color scheme, so this gets an A.

Brad Keselowski #6 Violet Defense Ford Mustang-The yellow really doesn’t work here, and the silver is pointless. The car is somewhat over designed. I do like the blue and black, so I’ll give this a C-

Corey LaJoie #7 Nations Guard Chevy Camaro-Same scheme as last year, same D grade.

Tyler Reddick #8 Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen Chevy Camaro-Same scheme as last year, same F grade.

Aric Almirola #10 Farmer John Ford Mustang-It’s amazing how removing some designs can help a grade. This went from a C to a B because of clean designs.

David Ragan #15 Select Blinds Ford Mustang-This is horrid! It’s too over designed, and the color group as a whole doesn’t work with each other. F

AJ Allmendinger #16 ChevyLiners.com Chevy Camaro-It’s a bold look, with a great color scheme, and that will always earn an A.

Christopher Bell #20 Sirius/XM Toyota Camry-This was a great color scheme last year, but with the new designs added, it looks more cluttered, so it gets taken down to a C.

Joey Logano #22 Shell/Pennzoil Ford Mustang-Yes! Yes! A thousand times Yes! This is a great look! I love this! After years of the Penske template forced down our throats, we are free! This looks amazing! A

Bubba Wallace #23 DoorDash Toyota Camry-Adding these new designs isn’t terrible, but a downgrade from last year. I do like this, but a downgrade is a downgrade. B+

Michael McDowell #34 Love’s Truck Stops Ford Mustang-It’s still a good scheme, but the new rainbows take away from it. A-

Todd Gilliland #38 First Phase Card Ford Mustang-A smooth look and a great color scheme will ALWAYS earn an A.

Ty Dillon #42 Black Rifle Coffee Chevy Camaro-I think the black designs are somewhat overdone, but it’s a decent scheme, so it gets a B+

Kaz Grala #50 The Money Team/Pit Viper Chevy Camaro-The fade and paint splatter would work by themselves, but together, the car has a cluttered look. I’ll give this a B-

J.J. Yeley #55 Malco Enterprises/Hex.com Ford Mustang-I think that the designs are a bit over done, but it works. A-

Josh Bilicki #77 Pacific Coast Termite Chevy Camaro-It’s a good look, it isn’t over designed, and it has a great color scheme. A

Landon Cassill #77 Voyager Chevy Camaro-I think the stripes are over done, but the car does has a good look, so it gets a B.

B.J. McLeod #78 SkyView Partners Ford Mustang-The green really isn’t needed, nor is the white. It’s too over designed. F

Daniel Suarez #99 Freeway Insurance Chevy Camaro-Same scheme as last year, same C grade.

I'm just a normal guy who collects race-worn driver suits, helmets, sheet metal, and other race-worn items. I will use this blog to help collectors, and race fans alike understand the various aspects of driver suits and helmets, and commentate on paint schemes.
