Jamie McMurray #1 Cessna/EZGO Chevy Camaro-Same scheme as Cessna, same A grade.

Brad Keselowski #2 Miller Lite Holiday Ford Fusion-The ugly sweater motif works very well here, and it works well with the already great color scheme, so this is getting an A

Ross Chastain #15 Blockcard Chevy Camaro-The front stripes don’t look good.  Those stripes barely work for a fade, but this isn’t a fade.  Add in that the shade of green used isn’t great, and you have a scheme that could be better.  Still, it’s not awful, so I’ll give it a B+.

J.J. Yeley #23 SHE Beverage Toyota Camry-I think the car is somewhat over designed, and the pink just doesn’t work with the rest of the scheme.  It’s not awful, but it’s not great, so it gets a C-.

Tanner Berryhill #97 Excel Therapy/Maximum Off-Road Toyota Camry-The zigzag design is a touch over done, but the color scheme works, and the car does look good.  All in all, I’m giving this an A-

Kevin Harvick #4 Busch Ford Mustang-Same scheme as 2018, same A grade.

Alex Bowman #88 LLumar Window Film Chevy Camaro-It’s just a meh scheme. The color scheme isn’t great or awful. The design scheme is neither great nor awful. It’s just meh.C

Ryan Blaney #12 Carlisle Tools Ford Fusion-I like the light blue with the Penske template. Considering how difficult the Penske template to use with certain colors, this is a good scheme. A

Clint Bowyer #14 Rush Truck Centers/Mobil Delvac 1 Ford Fusion-Same scheme as Rush’s Truck Stops, same A grade.

Paul Menard #21 Menard’s/Cardell Ford Fusion-Another example of how great the new Menard’s template is. A

J.J. Yeley #23 Maximum Elevation Offroad Toyota Camry-Black and white is a great color scheme, but the zig-zag design is not a great look. It if were toned down, it might be better, but this is not a good look. Still, it’s not the worst, so I’ll give it a C.

Joey Gase #51 Donate Life Texas Ford Fusion-Same scheme as #55, same A grade

David Starr #97 Toyota Camry-It’s a smooth look and it has a great color scheme, so that will always earn an A.

Kyle Weatherman #99 International Marine/Native Chevy Camaro-It has a decent design, but talk about an ugly over designed mess! This is the worst look, I’ve seen in a long time. This is really bad. The stripes are awful, and the design would be awful without them. This is getting the F it deserves.

Kyle Weatherman #99 Rewads.com Chevy Camaro-New scheme for 2018, same as #66 throwback. B-

Kyle Weatherman #99 Star Com Racing Fan Experience Chevy Camaro-It’s a smooth look and it has a great color scheme, so that will always earn an A.

Kyle Larson #42 McDonald’s Trick Treat Win Chevy Camaro-While I liked the #1, replacing yellow with blue doesn’t help that much.  It’s not terrible, but the color change takes an A grade down to a B+.

Darrell Wallace Jr. #43 Transportation Impact Chevy Camaro-Petty blue and white is a great color scheme, and the design scheme works well.  All in all, it’s worth an A.

Jimmie Johnson #48 Lowe’s Throwback Patriotic Chevy Camaro-Same scheme as last 2001, same A grade.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. #88 Nationwide Chevy Camaro-Get rid of the black and this would earn an A, but with the black, this earns a B+.

The Driver Suit Blog-Paint Scheme Grades-August 18, 2018

By David G. Firestone

Landon Cassill #00 Mane ‘n Tall Chevy Camaro-The color scheme isn’t great to begin with, and when you add in a design scheme that clashes with the color scheme, it’s not good.  It’s a car that clashes with itself. F

Ross Chastain #15 Solomon Plumbing Chevy Camaro-A good smooth look with a great color scheme will always earn an A.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. #17 John Deere Ford Fusion-Yellow and green can be a very difficult scheme to work with on a race car.  This scheme worked well in 1997, and this throwback knocks it out of the park.  It looks great, and I give it an A.

Erik Jones #20 Doosan Machine Tools Toyota Camry-It’s a great design scheme, but the light blue does not work with the rest of the scheme. If the blue were somewhat darker, it might work.  Still, it’s not a bad scheme, so, all things considered, I give it a B-.

Erik Jones #20 SportClips Throwback Toyota Camry-The RE/MAX look from 1997 is a great scheme.  It has a great color scheme and design scheme.  I also love the 1990’s Upper Deck based logo on the hood. All things considered, this gets an A

Paul Menard #21 Earn While You Learn/NewFordTech.com Ford Fusion-Same scheme as Motorcraft, same A grade.

Matt DiBenedetto #32 Harvest Investments Ford Fusion-It’s a great design scheme with a solid color scheme, and that will always earn an A.

David Ragan #38 Louis Kemp Crab Delights Ford Fusion-The orange crab scheme works well, and the blue works well with the rest of the scheme.  It just works well. A

BJ McLeod #51 Jacob Companies Chevy Camaro-Stripes on a race car are like Tabasco sauce in a Bloody Mary…too much is a bad thing.  In this case, less really would have been more.  It’s still not terrible, so I’ll give it an A-.

Timmy Hill #66 Rewards.com Chevy Camaro-The shades of green and blue aren’t great, and the Rewards logos don’t help.  It’s a good design scheme, but B-

Chase Elliott #9 NAPA Throwback Chevy Camaro-This is a great looking throwback, with a great design, and color scheme.  Nothing wrong here! A

Denny Hamlin #11 FedEx Cares Toyota Camry-Camouflage has NEVER worked on a race car, and it never will.  Add in the white base, and blue stripes, and you have a mess of a scheme. D+

Clint Bowyer #14 Haas 30 Years of the VF1 Ford Fusion-This is what happens when you take a great scheme and find a way to make it better.  The removal of part of the bottom stripe gives the car a cleaner look.  A

Erik Jones #20 DeWalt Patriotic Toyota Camry-Remember what I said about camouflage never working on a race car?  I officially take that back.  This is a camo scheme that works well, because it isn’t overpowering the rest of the car. It works well, and it gets an A.

Erik Jones #20 Toyota Toyota Camry-Yes the designs are trimmed down.  Yes the colors are changed.  No it doesn’t help this scheme at all.  It’s still an F scheme.

Eric Jones #20 Freightliner Toyota Camry-A smooth look with a great color scheme will always earn an A.

Paul Menard #21 Motorcraft Throwback Ford Fusion-You could pretty much put all of the pre 1997 Wood Brothers schemes in a hat, and be guaranteed to pick a good one, and this Cale Yarborough example is one.  It’s an amazing look, and it gets an A.

Gray Gaulding #23 Steakhouse Elite Toyota Camry-It’s really a meh scheme.  I will say that gold on black is an underrated combination, so seeing it here is nice.  I’ll give this scheme a B-.

Gray Gaulding #23 XXX Moonshine/KBM Properties Toyota Camry-Let’s see, front and rear designs that contrast, check. Bad shade of gray, check.  Door and roof numbers that contrast with the rest of the car, check.  Bad color scheme in general, check.  Scheme is getting an F, check.

David Ragan #38 Performance Plus Ford Fusion-Same scheme as #6, same B- grade.

Kyle Larson #42 Credit One Patriotic Chevy Camaro-The side design would work very well if the firework motif was removed.  It’s an amazing scheme, and it has a decent look, but the firework motif takes it from an A to a B+.

Darrell Wallace Jr. #43 Jewel Osco Chevy Camaro-It’s a smooth, simple look, and it has a great color scheme.  That will always earn an A.

Darrell Wallace Jr. #43 STP Throwback Chevy Camaro-Richard Petty’s STP scheme with no red is a great look, and this scheme is faithful to the original.  It’s a great throwback, and it earns an A.

Jimmie Johnson #48 Lowe’s/Jimmie Johnson Foundation Chevy Camaro-The design is over designed, and needlessly complex.  The only good thing I can say about this scheme is that I like the color scheme. D+

Cole Whitt #72 Dragonchain Chevy Camaro-I hate the lines on this scheme.  They are unnessicary, and pointless.  The scheme would be an A scheme without them, but with them, this scheme is a B- scheme.

Clint Bowyer #14 Ford NASCAR Hall of Fans Ford Fusion-Black is a great base color for a race car, silver, blue, and white work sell with black. I do think the side designs are over done, but they aren’t horrible. The scheme as a whole earns a .C-

Ross Chastain #15 Chevy Camaro-A smooth look with a great color scheme will always earn an A.

Kyle Busch #18 M&M’s Flavor Vote Toyota Camry-The addition of the three flavors the public can vote on are done well, and the car still has a good look. A

Paul Menard #21 Quaker State Ford Fusion-Green can be a temperamental color to work with on a race car, but Quaker State has a great shade of green.
